The short version
- LessonLingo does not keep copies of your documents. The translated copy is saved in your own Google Drive, not on our servers.
- To translate, the text and slide images of the document you choose are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI. Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
- We don't sell your data, show ads, or use your Google data for anything other than translating the files you ask us to translate.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see your full card number.
- You can disconnect LessonLingo from your Google account at any time.
This policy explains what information LessonLingo ("we", "us") collects when you use lessonlingo.com (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices you have. LessonLingo is operated from Ontario, Canada.
1. Information we collect
Google account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture so we can show who is signed in. Google also gives us access tokens that let the Service act on your Google Drive on your behalf.
Google Drive access
LessonLingo only asks for access to the specific Google Drive files you choose with Google's file picker (or upload), plus the translated copies it creates. It cannot see the rest of your Drive. We use this access only to:
- read the Google Slides, Google Docs, PowerPoint or Word file you choose or upload;
- make a copy of that file in your Drive and write the translation into the copy;
- convert files you upload into Google format, and export the translated copy as PowerPoint, Word or PDF when you click a download button;
- delete an unfinished copy if a translation fails partway through.
We never change, move or delete your original file, and we cannot browse or read other files in your Drive.
Document content
While a translation is running, the text of your document, and images of slides whose text is part of a picture, pass through our servers so they can be translated. They are processed in memory and are not stored by LessonLingo once the translation finishes.
Plan and billing information
To apply plan limits, we keep a customer record with our payment processor, Stripe, linked to your email address and name. It holds your plan, your subscription status and a count of translations used this month. If you subscribe to Pro, Stripe collects your payment details directly. We can see limited information such as the card type, the last four digits, your billing country and your invoices, but never your full card number.
Technical information
Our hosting provider records standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type, time of request and errors) to keep the Service running and secure. These logs are kept for a short period.
2. How we use information
- To sign you in and keep you signed in.
- To translate the files you choose and save the results to your Drive.
- To fix problems, prevent abuse and keep the Service secure.
- To reply when you contact us.
We do not use your documents or Google data for advertising, we do not sell them, and we do not use them to train AI models.
3. Google API Services User Data Policy
LessonLingo's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- we only use Google user data to provide and improve the translation features you see in the Service;
- we only transfer Google user data to others when needed to provide those features (see section 4), to comply with the law, or as part of a merger or sale with notice to you;
- we do not use Google user data to serve ads, and we do not use it to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine-learning models;
- no person at LessonLingo reads your data unless you ask us to (for example, to help with a problem), it is needed for security or legal reasons, or it has been made anonymous.
4. Who we share information with
We use a small number of service providers to run LessonLingo:
- Anthropic (Claude API) translates your document's text and reads text inside slide images. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models and is kept only for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring.
- Google provides sign-in and stores your files in your own Drive.
- Vercel hosts the website and runs our servers.
- Stripe processes payments and stores your plan and usage record. Stripe's handling of payment information is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.
Some of these providers process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local laws. We do not share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
5. Cookies
We use only the cookies needed to run the Service: an encrypted session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a short-lived cookie that protects the sign-in process. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The website loads the Inter font from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads.
6. How long we keep information
Your session cookie lasts until you sign out or it expires. We don't keep a copy of your documents or translations. Translated copies stay in your Google Drive until you delete them. Billing records such as invoices and payments are kept as long as tax and accounting laws require, generally six years in Canada. You can ask us to delete your customer record if you have no active subscription. We'll keep only what the law requires.
7. Your choices
- Sign out at any time from the LessonLingo page.
- Remove access by visiting your Google Account permissions page and removing LessonLingo.
- Ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by emailing lessonlingosupport@gmail.com.
8. Security
Connections to LessonLingo use HTTPS, and your session is stored in an encrypted cookie. No service can be perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Students and children
LessonLingo is designed for teachers and other adults. It is not meant to be used by children. Please don't translate documents that contain students' personal information (such as names with grades, report cards or IEPs) unless your school or board allows it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know on the site.
